Sister Rosetta Tharpe
1915 – 1973

Sister Rosetta was a gospel singer and musician, that played the electric guitar, and one of the early woman to do so.  She was one of the first guitarist to add heavy distortion on her tracks, combining gospel, blues, and early R&B.  She was considered the godmother of rock ‘n’ roll, which influenced such greats as Elvis, Little Richard and Johnny Cash.
