Fossils of Life, 2014
24 in x 48 in

This painting was part of a group showing that involved several artists.  The assignment was to locate places that were indigenous to Indiana and create a painting from the findings. The artist decided to go to the Indiana Dunes as her location of choice.  After spending an entire day on location, and taking over 300 pictures for reference, this painting was the final choice.  The artist climbed about 30-40 feet to locate the weathered log.  The artist titled this painting, Fossils of Life, from the fossil-like exterior of the log.  Like a fossil, the log is the remnant of a once living tree, so are the scars in one’s life as a reminder of a life well-lived.
